Meet Dr Eduan Deetlefs
Dr Eduan Deetlefs did his basic training at the University of Pretoria before specialising as a physician and subsequently a specialist gastroenterologist at the University of Cape Town and Groote Schuur Hospital.
He has been in private practice for close to 10 years and practices from Mediclinic Milnerton.
He has admitting rights and performs endoscopies at both Mediclinic Milnerton and Life Vincent Pallotti Hospitals. New rooms at Vincent Pallotti Hospital, planned for the end of 2020, are awaited with excitement.
Dr Eduan sees the whole spectrum of gastrointestinal and liver-related diseases with a special interest in inflammatory bowel disease and anaemia caused by obscure intestinal bleeding. He performs numerous procedures including diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopies and colonoscopies.
Dr Eduan has a wealth of up to date knowledge in the management of inflammatory bowel disease and in addition he has a trial centre, Spoke Research Inc, that specialises in biological trials for inflammatory bowel disease.

Dr Deetlefs has admitting rights and performs endoscopies at both Mediclinic Milnerton and Life Vincent Pallotti Hospitals.
Services include consultations for gastrointestinal and liver related diseases with a specific interest in inflammatory bowel disease and iron deficiency anaemia caused by obscure gastrointestinal bleeding.
He furthermore performs numerous more specialised procedures such as capsule endoscopy, double-balloon enteroscopy, ERCP and various interventional procedures including polypectomies for large polyps, haemostasis of bleeding lesions, ablation of Barrett’s oesophagus and placement of feeding tubes (PEG).

Gastroscopy

Double-Balloon Enteroscopy
Double-balloon enteroscopy is an endoscopic technique for visualization of the small bowel. It is an endoscopic technique that allows for the entire gastrointestinal tract to be visualized in real time.
Colonoscopy

ERCP
ERCP is a technique that uses endoscopy and X-rays to diagnose and treat problems of the bile ducts and main pancreatic duct, like gallstones, infections, tumors, and cancers.
Polypectomy
Polypectomy procedure is used by doctors to remove polyps from the inner linings of the large intestine/the colon. It is usually performed during colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy.
